Yooooo what’s up yall! Back again with a printing post! Surprise surprise… Last time we chatted about getting my new printer online and going over all the bells and whistles. Now that things are up and running and I’m not failing every other print, we can get cranking again. Well, less cranking and more hanging. Yep, this time we’re zooming in on hangars!

Clutching with some Crutches
This one came from the honey-do list. My wife is a keen organizer and keeps me and my printer very busy. This commission from her was to rig up a few hangars for some crutches in our hall closet. Better to have them hanging on a wall than leaning randomly on whatever is stacked in there. For this specific job I decided to try to design this from scratch vs nabbing a STL off Thingiverse.

Diving back into FreeCAD, there was a bit of learning curve I had to get through. Last time I used it was when I made those canvas stands. I had to shake off the rust with how constraints, padding and counter sinking works. Grok was able to get me over the rough patches. Aaaaand Voila! Hangers for some crutches!

Now I’m warmed up with Free CAD, it’s time to kick it up a notch!
Hanging that Hose
Enjoy the little word play there 😉 Anyway, on a separate project I made an enclosure for all my backyard outdoor stuff. I’d call it a shed but it’s missing a roof and it’s walls and doors are made out of decking. #HOAworkaround
Oh and did you notice the white and black pieces? Those are self made ship-lap guides or in this case decking door/wall gap guides.

So now that I have a spot to put all the outdoor stuff, I needed a good way to hang up the hose. Fired up CAD, made a thick S shape hook, and printed it. Emphasis on thick, this had to hold a bit of weight and survive the elements.

In Orca I also cranked up the infill and wall thickness to compensate for extra strength. The hangers hook on the 2×4 side had to be long enough and thick enough to withstand the tension. Time will tell how long PLA can withstand temperature swings and weathering.

Working outside, if I hear a loud snap and a big thud, I’ll know what happened. What should last forever out there is a couple of handles I made for the doors. Those did come from Thingiverse.

As I wrap up this project, I catch wind that my wife is about to buy hangers for the boys rooms…
Why Buy it when you can Make it!

That was my argument. I spotted the hangers in the Amazon cart and in 5 minutes I found ones exactly like them on Thingiverse. I would have made this one in CAD but this design was a bit tricky, I was low on time and Grok wasn’t cooperating.

With hoodies hung the room was 10% more organized. Now that I was hooked, I needed to keep getting my organizational fix! I also found a file organizer on Thingiverse. No longer will my counters be overflowing with my kids artwork!

Sorry to leave you Hanging
Well that’s a wrap for this one, all floor items are hung up in my house. Lots of tech stuff brewing, some AI stuff, some video game stuff, so stay tuned! But in the meantime, I’m going to keep hanging things and basically turn my house into ninja warrior. All the more reason to keep using this printer. Until next time!
